About the Coalition
The UK Coalition to Stop TB was formed in 2008 to increase the level of awareness, commitment and political will to address TB through co-ordinated actions and a unified voice. The Coalition is a national partner of the global Stop TB Partnership.
There is more TB in the world today than ever before, with more than 9 million new cases every year. TB has a close association with poverty and is also the leading cause of death among people living with HIV. More than 5,000 people die of TB every day. Yet TB is preventable and curable. The UK is also experiencing a growing TB burden with 8,679 cases recorded in 2008.
As both a donor and TB-affected country, the UK is uniquely placed to play a pivotal role in the fight against TB. The UK Coalition to Stop TB aims to harness the skills, capacity and energy of all its members and provide greater influence and impact to existing efforts with the final goal – to stop TB.
Membership of the UK Coalition to Stop TB is open to organisations and individuals working to address the TB epidemic in the UK and internationally, including for example, NGOs, the private sector, media, advocates, academic institutions and professional organisations.
